More international researchers on their way to INESC TEC to advance their research

It is entirely promoted by INESC TEC and has proven to be a huge success in terms of scientific exchange. The International Visiting Researcher Programme, now entering the third edition, welcomed 28 researchers to INESC TEC; 19 more are expected to join in the upcoming months.

Focusing on researchers (including master’s degree and PhD students) from institutions outside Portugal, the Programme started in 2022, and quickly became a benchmark. Andreia Passos, head of INESC TEC International Relations Service, explained that “the good results of the last two editions led to the third edition this year, which features 76 research topics proposed by our researchers – something that has been increasing over the years, showing the interest of our community in this type of initiatives”.

The selected candidates will have the opportunity to focus their work on major areas, including Artificial Intelligence, Bioengineering, Communications, Computer Science and Engineering, Power Systems, Systems Engineering and Management, and Robotics, cooperating with highly trained professionals to address several challenges, thus advancing research and innovation.

The first researchers are now arriving at INESC TEC, and Andreia Passos stated that “for this edition alone, we received more than 90 applications from 76 institutions in 28 countries around the world, with a higher prevalence for Brazil, Spain, India and the U.S.A.”.

In all, 19 candidates were selected, and they will now spend up to three months at INESC TEC. “The feedback from previous editions was very positive; in some cases, the connection continues even after the researchers return to their institutions, which allows us to advance institutional relations”, stressed Andreia Passos, reinforcing that “this interconnection between researchers contributes to the international status of INESC TEC as a centre of scientific excellence, fostering international cooperation in areas that are strategic to several international agendas.

Since 2022, the International Visiting Researcher Programme has already favoured the exchange of 28 researchers.
