Researchers present their work in India in the scope of Indo-Portuguese Cooperation project

Between February 24 and 28, Bruno Veloso and Sónia Teixeira – researchers at INESC TEC – visited the Centre for Urban Science & Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IIT-B), as part of a project in the frame of the Indo-Portuguese Programme for Cooperation in Science & Technology Project. The project is being developed in partnership with Ronitha Bardhan and Arnab Jana from IIT-B.

INESC TEC’s Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support Laboratory (LIAAD) was part of one of the 15 projects approved within the framework of the Indo-Portuguese Agreement for Cooperation in Science and Technology for 2017-2019. This Programme promotes the bilateral cooperation between researchers from these two countries, through exploratory visits, cooperative R&D projects, and seminars/workshops. The Department of Science and Technology (Ministry of Science and Technology of India) and FCT (Ministry of Science, Technology and Higher Education of Portugal), are the agencies responsible for the implementation of the Programme, in India and in Portugal, respectively.

Over the past two years, researchers João Gama and Shazia Tabassum (INESC TEC), have visited and shared their knowledge with IIT-B; this year, Bruno Veloso and Sónia Teixeira participated in the special session of the 1st International Conference on Urban Science and Engineering at IIT-B.

Bruno presented the “Interconnect bypass fraud: a case study“, showing the results of his work and demonstrating that the application of different techniques improves the detection ratio and complements the techniques used by the telecommunication companies.

Sónia Teixeira presented “The risks of data-driven models as challenges for society”, which aims to understand how the three risk dimensions are addressed in the processes of developing Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Public Policies.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC, UP-FEP e UP-FEUP.
