Interview

What is the connection between Foodintech and INESC TEC?

Foodintech has been collaborating on European projects with INESC TEC; I’d like to highlight the IFishCan project, co-financed by the EU under the EIT Digital, EIT Foods and EIT Manufacturing programmes.

We had the pleasure of being invited by INESC TEC to integrate this project, which allowed us to integrate our MES solution – FLOW M, with technologies from the Industry 4.0 universe.

What are the main results of this collaboration?

Foodintech considers MES technology as the backbone of businesses’ Industry 4.0 strategy. Given our dimension, Foodintech does not have the ability to internally develop skills across the entire technological spectrum within Industry 4.0. In this sense, the collaboration with INESC TEC allows us to explore this entire ecosystem, in view of INESC TEC’s know-how, through practical and tangible projects among Foodintech’s clients.

How do you rate your experience with INESC TEC?

IFishCan was not the only collaborative initiative promoted by both institutions; from our experience, I can say that INESC TEC has played a highly professional role as a partner in these projects. We appreciate the practical sense and technical knowledge that INESC TEC brings to the projects, collaborating significantly with the outputs from said projects. Essentially, Foodintech learns a lot from INESC TEC.

What do you value the most in this collaboration?

The technical skills that INESC TEC brings to the table, allowing Foodintech to explore an ecosystem of technologies that would otherwise be quite difficult. These projects allow us to explore, with our clients, strategies for incorporating more complex technologies into our MES solution. This process of integrating more advanced technological ecosystems by industrial SMEs constitutes a very important experience in validating strategies for incorporating technologies within Industry 4.0.

What can we expect from Foodintech over the upcoming years?

We aim to consolidate our position and our role within some industrial sectors at national level. Moreover, we are advancing our internationalisation strategy, already presenting some concrete results. Finally, we aim to keep exploring other technological boundaries within the needs of industrial SMEs, with partners like INESC TEC.
