INESC TEC joined the Portuguese delegation that visited the Federation of Industries of the State of Ceará (FIEC), in Brazil; this was an opportunity to explore potential collaboration actions with Ceará state entities in terms of Blue Economy. During this initiative – led José Maria Costa, Secretary of State for Maritime Affairs – INESC TEC signed a memorandum of understanding with FIEC, towards promoting projects dedicated to the development of ocean technologies.
In addition to FIEC, the Portuguese delegation visited the Industry Observatory, the Casa da Indústria, and the fish exporting company Compex. This visit also included business meetings with companies in that region, encouraging the establishment of new partnerships.
“INESC TEC participated in this mission as a representative of market-oriented research to address the main challenges in this sector, focusing on a more sustainable Blue Economy”, explained Ana Paula Lima. The INESC TEC researcher, who was part of the delegation, also stated that the memorandum of understanding will enable the development of joint projects, with a visit to Portugal already scheduled.
The Portuguese delegation travelled to Ceará in early August, after the initial visit of FIEC’s President Ricardo Cavalcante to Portugal. This mission brought together representatives from several entities: Directorate-General for Natural Resources, Safety and Maritime Services, Docapesca, Skipper & Wool, Luís Silvério & Filhos, Gelpeixe, Confederação Empresarial de Portugal, Associação da Indústria Alimentar pelo Frio, Porto de Sines, School of Tourism and Maritime Technology, Bitclic, Grupo ETE.
