During the months of June and July, INESC TEC will carry out a capacity-building action dedicated to “Smart Grids” targeting the professors at the Higher Institute of Engineering and Marine Sciences (ISECMAR) of the Atlantic Technical University (UTA), Cape Verde, as well as a training initiative with business actors part of the electricity sector. This action follows the cooperation agreement between INESC TEC and UTA, signed in 2022.
Microgrids, architectures and smart grids, electric mobility and grid integration, electric vehicle chargers or energy communities are some of the topics included in said training action, promoted by INESC TEC in collaboration with ISECMAR. The initiative targets ISECMAR professors and is also open to representatives of companies operating in the sector in Cabo Verde: ELECTRA – a concessionary company; CABEÓLICA, the largest wind generation company in the country; other organisations like ELECTRIC Wind or CERMI.
The first session took place on June 6, promoted by Clara Gouveia, a researcher at INESC TEC Centre for Power and Energy Systems (CPES); it featured 70 professionals, mostly representatives of the business ecosystem, including members of ELECTRA’s Board of Directors. Sessions 2, 3 and 4 were promoted by Carlos Moreira, David Rua and Ricardo Ferreira, researchers at CPES – all with equally large audiences.
“The opinions gathered indicate that the sessions were a success”, mentioned Vladimiro Miranda, Associate Director of INESC TEC and coordinator of the initiative, who also stated that the training action features 10 training modules. The next phase of the initiative will include “the professors’ visits to INESC TEC, in Porto, with INESC TEC researchers traveling to Mindelo, Cape Verde, to visit ISECMAR”.
The remaining sessions, scheduled until July 6, will feature Joel Soares, Ricardo Silva and José Villar, also researchers at CPES.
INESC TEC and the Atlantic Technical University signed a Memorandum of Understanding in 2022. The agreement focuses on collaboration in science management and the exchange and training of human resources, while promoting a series of initiatives, i.e., technological support in biology and marine sciences, the organisation of intensive training courses, workshops and seminars, and joint participation in R&D projects.
The INESC TEC researcher, Carlos Moreira, mentioned in this news piece is associated with UP–FEUP.
