INESC TEC integrates European association of telecommunications networks and services 6G

INESC TEC is part of the 6G Smart Networks and Services Industry Association (6G-IA), the European industry and research voice for next-generation telecommunications networks and services, which aims to contribute to Europe’s leadership in 5G, post-5G and 6G research.

The 6G-IA network carries out several activities in strategic areas, including standardisation, spectrum management, R&D projects, technology skills, and collaboration with industry, namely in the fields of health, agroforestry, sea, etc., as well as in the development of tests in real environment and international cooperation activities.

INESC TEC’s participation in this association has a strategic dimension, providing an opportunity to integrate consortia that are limited to 6G-IA members, which mobilise key European entities in telecommunications. As a member of the association, INESC TEC may also contact partners and integrate relevant consortia for the participation and leadership of European projects in telecommunications and 6G networks. It’s also an opportunity to integrate working groups and have privileged access to information, including calls for projects, European strategic agendas, and work programmes in the context of Horizon Europe, while increasing the national and international visibility of INESC TEC in the field of telecommunications.

“INESC TEC is a Full Research Member of 6G-IA, which will allow us to achieve the strategic objectives underlying our participation, while addressing the needs of the European and international R&D activities we develop”, said Rui Campos, coordinator of INESC TEC’s Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM).

The INESC TEC team also includes Filipe Ribeiro, Hélder Fontes, Hélder Oliveira, Luís Pessoa, Manuel Ricardo, and Paula Viana, all of them researchers at CTM.

The members of the 6G-IA association are the main European and international actors in telecommunications networks and services, including telecommunications operators, manufacturers, research institutes and universities, SMEs and associations dedicated to ICT. 6G-IA also includes two other members from Portugal: the Institute of Telecommunications and the International Iberian Nanotechnology Laboratory.

The INESC TEC researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC, UP-FEUP, UP-FCUP and IPP-ISEP.
