INESC TEC organised a training action on Industry 4.0

“Industry 4.0 and the Digitalisation of Industry” was the name of the training action promoted by INESC TEC to address a challenge by Kaizen Institute Portugal; the imitative aimed to provide a group of 20 senior consultants of said institute the opportunity to observe, explore and interact with different technologies: mobile, industrial and collaborative robotics, digital solutions supported by industrial internet of things (IIoT) platforms and 5G communication networks, digital twin, advanced planning and scaling, artificial intelligence and simulation.

According to António Almeida, business developer of INESC TEC’s TEC4Industry, “the diversity, range and integration of the themes and, above all, the significant practical and experimental component of the emerging technologies of Industry 4.0” were the main differentiating aspects of the course.

This training initiative also strengthened the partnership between the two organisations, which will enable the definition of new opportunities for collaboration, the development of proposals for the provision of services with a strong Research and Development component, and the facilitation of the transition of knowledge to the market.

“The main goal of this training action was to convey concepts that allow establishing strategic relationships between the various INESC TEC centres and the Kaizen Institute Portugal, towards developing new products and services to be introduced in the national and European markets,” he added.

According to José Carlos Pires, senior partner of the Kaizen Institute, “these work and sharing sessions were useful to explore the technical specificities of each technology, ensuring the standardisation of some specific concepts that are very important for any digital transformation process”. José Pires also emphasised that “throughout the implementation of a digital transformation process, it is crucial to ensure the training of employees, the involvement of leaders in the strategic implementation of this initiative and the evaluation of ROI in each new area where the solution is implemented”.

The 40-hour training action included 14 modules and took place in March; it’s part of INESC TEC’s strategy to position itself as a critical partner for training in the digital transformation of the national industry.
