INESC TEC part of project to predict and prevent fires

INESC TEC is part of a national project that aims to predict and prevent fires, while supporting fire-fighting actions during and after their occurrence. The project, called DBoidS Digital Twins and Boids System for fire prevention, is promoted by two INESC TEC research centres – humanISE (Human-Centered Computing and Information Science) and the Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS).

The INESC TEC team will focus on the development of control and management algorithms for drone fleets, and data extraction, using Artificial Intelligence techniques.

“Predicting and preventing fires can avoid and/or reduce the impact of forest fires, which often put citizens in a situation of great danger”, said João Barroso, researcher at humanISE and associate professor at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD).

The DBoidS project is developed in partnership with the Computer Science and Communication Research Centre of the Polytechnic Institute of Leiria; it started in January 2022, with funding of approximately €225K.

The INESC TEC researcher mentioned in this news piece is associated with UTAD.
