INESC TEC participated in the first edition of the UTAD Summit

As a way to disseminate and stimulate the inclusion of new members, INESC TEC joined the first edition of the UTAD Summit, a pedagogical event organised by a group of five student centres at the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD), which took place between March 7 and 10.

As one of the official sponsors, INESC TEC attended the Employment Fair throughout the event, and prepared a lecture and a workshop, both of which taking place on March 9; the Institute also participated in the parallel activities programme. The first included an institutional presentation of INESC TEC, carried out by José Boaventura, a researcher at the Centre for Robotics in Industry and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS), followed by an exhibition on the Massive Laboratory, by Miguel Melo, a researcher at HumanISE – Human-Centered Computing and Information Science. The workshop “IoT sensor node for precision agriculture based on LoRaWAN”, presented by António Valente, researcher at CRIIS, demonstrated the elaboration of a sensor node for precision agriculture, also addressing its programming and registration on the LoRaWAN network, the design of the decoder, and the recording and visualisation of data on a database.

The main objective of the event was the dissemination of companies or organisations capable of serving as a future career option for UTAD students, while improving the pedagogical skills of all students represented by these Centres.

Over the years, the Centres of UTAD’s School of Sciences and Technology carried out separate pedagogical initiatives, frequently attracting hundreds of students and teachers to their events. This time, and in order to foster the relationship between the promoters and to expand these occasions, the five Centres merged their dedicated events, thus creating the UTAD Summit. This initiative was co-organised by the student centres of Informatics Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering, Industrial Management and Engineering, Applied Mathematics and Data Science, and Communication and Multimedia.
