INESC TEC researcher chairs the Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition

Hélder Oliveira, INESC TEC researcher, is the new chairman of the Portuguese Association for Pattern Recognition (APRP). APRP is a non-profit association whose objective is to promote advances, both theoretical and practical, in the scientific domain of pattern recognition. In this sense, it is responsible for organising numerous conferences, meetings and training courses and disseminating scientific and technical information.

The INESC TEC researcher, who had already been part of the association’s governing bodies since 2017, headed the newly elected list at the APRP General Assembly, on October 27.

“As chairman, and together with the other governing bodies, my goals are to further foster research in pattern recognition in Portugal”, explained Hélder Oliveira. The APRP will keep promoting the activities of various researchers in this area, while attracting more people to develop research activities in the various R&D centres throughout the country.

The field of pattern recognition has been one of the main interests of Hélder Oliveira’s research at INESC TEC; plus, the institution’s researchers have been a regular presence at RECPAD, the annual Portuguese conference on pattern recognition, organized by APRP – INESC TEC is usually the entity with the most participants in this event.
