INESC TEC technology is a finalist in the «Entrepreneurship and Innovation» award of Crédito Agrícola

Determining water stress in plants is a critical task for the optimisation of water-based agricultural inputs and contributes to more sustainable and efficient processes. With this market need in mind, INESC TEC developed a technology capable of mapping the water distribution in the vegetation. The innovation called Water Percept is among the three finalists of the «Entrepreneurship and Innovation” award from Crédito Agrícola, in the “Production, Transformation and Commercialisation” category.

The technology measures the amount of water in the vegetation in a precise and non-invasive way by producing 2D or 3D images to characterise the water stress of plants.

The innovation, which was developed by INESC TEC’s researchers Cândido Duarte, from the Centre for Telecommunications and Multimedia (CTM); Filipe Neves, from the Centre for Robotics and Intelligent Systems (CRIIS), and Rodrigo Borges (former researcher, being integrated in the CTM at the time), measures the amount of water in the vegetation in a precise and non-invasive way, through the production of 2D or 3D images to characterise the water stress of plants.

The project application for the Crédito Agrícola’s award was led by the Technology Licensing Office (SAL) and the technology itself, with applications in the precision agriculture, is protected by a European patent application.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC.
