PRR: INESC TEC in 26 selected proposals with an investment of over €55M

INESC TEC integrates 26 of the 64 pre-qualified consortia to submit applications for funding under the Agendas for Business Innovation of the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR). From Energy to Health, through Production Technologies, Water and Sea, Mobility or Space, the selected proposals are divided into 22 Mobilising Agendas and four Green Agendas, representing an investment of more than €55M.

Among the pre-qualified initiatives, with direct participation of INESC TEC, one can find projects aimed at the development of new production processes, products, and services, stimulating the energy transition and carbon neutrality, innovation and sustainable management, the circular economy or the digital transformation in different sectors of the economy. The proposals also aim to contribute to the internationalisation and increase in exports, as well as the creation of new jobs, improved productivity and greater investment in research and development.

Some examples are: the consortium led by the company Prológica – Sistemas Informáticos S.A., which seeks to position Portugal as a centre of reference in the design and development of healthcare products and services, which stand out for their degree of innovation and incorporation of technology; the proposal led by the company Colep Packaging Portugal, S.A., seeking to promote the development and adoption of innovative production technologies and solutions by the national industry – consequently accelerating the development of the national sector of Production Technologies; or the application by the company Acuinova – Activities Piscícolas, S.A., which aims to increase the annual production of fish, until reaching the target of 30 thousand tons per year, contemplating, for instance, the technological development for fish production in the open sea.

In addition to these ideas, the remaining proposals selected for the second phase also fall within the scientific domains of INESC TEC, with involvement in areas such as Energy, Manufacturing and Extractive Industry, Mobility, Infrastructures, Information Technologies, Digitalisation, Agriculture and Forestry, Space and Civil Construction. With access to the next stage, the consortia – mainly composed of companies, public entities, higher education institutions and research centres – will be invited to present their final projects towards concluding programme contracts.

It’s worth mentioning that, during the first phase, 144 expressions of interest were submitted for funding under the PRR. Of these, 64 proposals were selected, representing an investment of almost 10 billion euros. The Agendas for Business Innovation will help Portugal to achieve a set of strategic goals by 2030, namely changing the specialisation profile of the Portuguese economy, increasing exports of goods and services, increasing investment in R&D to 3% of GDP and the reduction of CO2 emissions by 55%.
