INESC TEC researcher awarded at the Optics and Photonics for Scientific Progress 2021 conference

The work presented by Paulo Robalinho, researcher at INESC TEC’s Centre for Applied Photonics (CAP), was acknowledged at the OPSP – Optics and Photonics for Scientific Progress, which took place online, on April 13 and 14, at the University of Southampton (UK).

Paulo Robalinho won the prize for “Best Poster”

This conference, organised by students and members of the OSA Student Chapters from the Universities of Kent and Surrey, granted the jury’s award for “Best Poster” to the work entitled “New Combination of Push-Pull Method and Vernier Effect for Strain Colossal Sensitivities”, co-authored by Paulo Robalinho and Orlando Frazão, researchers at CAP.

In this study, the authors implemented the Push-Pull method, which allows obtaining symmetrical sensitivities with two equal optical fibres. It relied on two high-birefringence fibres, thus obtaining a maximum sensitivity of 10.000 pm/μe.

Currently, Paulo Robalinho is a PhD student in the Doctoral Program in Physics Engineering, co-promoted by the Faculty of Engineering and the Faculty of Sciences of the University of Porto, and his research work is being developed under the scientific supervision of Orlando Frazão.

The researchers mentioned in this news piece are associated with INESC TEC.
