Tiago Neves, an INESC TEC researcher, is the team leader of “MetaFitGame”, one of the 10 contender start-ups of the European Innovation Academy (EIA) 2022. “MetaFitGame” is a mobile fitness app that aims to encourage people to practice sports in a fun way, transforming physical exercises into a game.
The idea stemmed from the vision of the researcher and four other students of various nationalities and was considered one of the best start-up projects created during EIA 2022, which took place at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Porto (FEUP) and the Faculty of Economics of Porto (FEP).
“MetaFitGame” aims to be the funniest mobile fitness app ever developed, including custom avatars that users can purchase for approximately €3. The application was also one of the three award-winning ideas of the Ventural Capital Fund “500 Global“. “We are very happy for this acknowledgement”, said the researcher of INESC TEC’s Laboratory of Artificial Intelligence and Decision Support (LIAAD).
EIA Porto 2022 took place between July 17 and August 5, featuring the University of Porto, Santander Foundation, Beta-i and Porto City Hall as main partners – also involving Google, the University of Berkeley and Galp as Energy Partner.
